Belknap Exhibit Center Prineville Oregon
Expanding How Crook County History Is Shared and Experienced

Key Points
- Purpose-built exhibit space expanding how local history is shared
- Developed through community support and historical society leadership
- Features rotating exhibits that bring new stories to Prineville year-round
The Belknap Exhibit Center represents a major step forward in how Crook County history is shared, experienced, and preserved. Located in downtown Prineville near the Bowman Museum, this purpose-built space was developed by the Crook County Historical Society to meet a growing need—more room to tell more stories.
The project began in 2016 when the Historical Society acquired the property with a clear vision: to create a dedicated exhibit space capable of hosting larger and more frequently changing displays than the museum alone could support. Funding and development efforts followed, with community support and ongoing fundraising helping bring the concept to life.
Opened as part of the continued expansion of the Crook County History Center campus, the Belknap Exhibit Center is a 2,000-square-foot facility designed to balance modern function with historical character. Its design pays tribute to Dr. Horace Belknap, reinforcing the Center’s connection to local heritage.
Inside, the Center focuses on rotating and traveling exhibits—allowing for deeper storytelling across a wide range of topics. This flexibility creates a constantly evolving experience for residents and visitors.
Since opening, the Belknap Exhibit Center has expanded the reach of the Bowman Museum’s collections and strengthened Prineville’s role as a cultural destination.
Beyond exhibits, the space contributes to downtown Prineville by drawing visitors and supporting local activity.
As part of the Crook County Historical Society mission, the Belknap Exhibit Center stands as an example of community-supported preservation and ongoing discovery.
