High Points
- Preserving and teaching the timeless art of quilting for more than 25 years.
- Creating chemo quilts, children's comfort quilts, and community gifts that bring hope and encouragement throughout Central Oregon.
- Building lasting friendships while quietly serving countless individuals, families, and local organizations through volunteerism and generosity.
More Than Quilts… A Community Sewn Together
Founded in 1999, the Crook County Quilt Guild was established with a simple but powerful mission:
“To come together in the spirit of community and friendship for the purpose of preserving and perpetuating the many facets and dimensions of the art of quilting through education, works of charity, and the sharing of ideas and information.“
More than a quarter century later, those words continue to guide one of Crook County’s most admired community organizations.
Today, the Guild includes approximately fifty-five members led by President Ken Lawler, who jokingly refers to himself as “the one man” among an incredibly talented group of dedicated quilters. Together, they continue creating beautiful works of art while sharing techniques, encouraging new quilters, and welcoming anyone interested in learning more about this timeless craft.
Every two years, the Guild hosts its highly anticipated Quilt Show at the Crook County Fairgrounds, where visitors can admire extraordinary quilts, meet experienced quilters, learn from instructors, and discover the artistry and tradition that quilting continues to represent.
Why It Matters
Some quilts warm the body. Others warm the heart.
The Crook County Quilt Guild understands that the true value of quilting isn’t measured by stitches or patterns, it’s measured by the comfort, hope, and encouragement each quilt provides to someone who needs it most.
Through countless volunteer hours, shared talents, and generous hearts, Guild members quietly remind us that acts of kindness often arrive wrapped in fabric, thread, and love.
Their work isn’t simply preserving an art form. It’s preserving compassion.
Community Impact
Perhaps no project better represents the Guild’s heart than its Chemo Quilt Program.
These handmade quilts are lovingly created and donated to individuals undergoing chemotherapy treatments, providing warmth, comfort, and reassurance during one of life’s most difficult journeys. Distributed through organizations such as the St. Charles Cancer Center, these quilts become far more than blankets—they become reminders that someone cares.
Closer to home, Guild members also support Head Start by providing comfort quilts for children during nap time, creating a sense of warmth, familiarity, and security for young learners.
Another treasured outreach supports MountainStar Family Relief Nursery, where birthday celebration bags filled with cake mix, frosting, a baking pan, a book, a toy, and other thoughtful items help ensure every child has the opportunity to celebrate their special day.
These projects may never make headlines.
But they make a lasting difference.

The Fabric of a Community
Communities are often remembered for their landmarks.
Sometimes… they’re remembered for their people.
The Crook County Quilt Guild has quietly spent more than twenty-five years stitching together friendships, preserving traditions, mentoring future generations, and wrapping neighbors in kindness during life’s most difficult moments.
Their quilts certainly tell beautiful stories.
But perhaps their greatest masterpiece is the community they continue helping weave together, one stitch, one friendship, and one act of compassion at a time.
